The Zorn House in Mora is one of Sweden’s best known artist homes. It is an outstanding example of an artist’s home from 1900. A home created by a person with both economic opportunities and ideas, based on tradition and knowledge of the modern building style.
Anders Zorn bought the ground in 1886, a plot of land next to the church in Mora where he moved a house from his maternal grandfather’s farm. When the couple Zorn in 1996 decided to settle in Mora after many years abroad, mainly in France, they began to build the house. Today it looks the same as it did in 1910 when it was completed. The most remarkable room is a 9 meter high lounge on the second floor, it was a room well functioning for social gatherings.
On the ground floor, the kitchen, the dining room, which is part of the old cottage, and the guest rooms are situated. In addition to the Great lounge upstairs there are the spouses Zorn’s private rooms, ie their bedroom, Emma Zorn’s library and the Green Room.
The characteristic apperance of the Zorn House, both interior and exterior makes it one of Sweden’s most distinctive buildings. Inspired from both English and Swedish architecture, today it is a shining example of the architectural freedom that characterizes the decades around 1900.
Particularly noticeable is the furniture, both from Gustavian and Karl Johan periods, and the furniture that Zorn himself has designed, inspired by the traditional rustic furniture. Here are also parts of the large silver collection, and some interesting porcelain. The table in the dining room is set at least four times a year, according to old customs.
